Sangang is the oldest iron factory that specializes in fishery boat repair in Nanfangao, and it bears witness to Nanfangao’s golden days. It was founded in 1962 by three expert technicians who were also good friends. Thus, the factory was named Sangang, meaning “three unbeatable men.”
The factory was closed due to industrial advancement. Reluctant to let go, Liao Ta-ching and his wife turned the factory into a museum. The first and the second floors now tell stories of the factory, while the third floor serves as a small cultural museum. If you ever visit Nanfangao, be sure to drop by and learn about its iron industry, through the old objects on display and relevant documents and photos.
