In response to the United Nations' "World Bicycle Day," the Northeast Coast and Yilan Coast National Scenic Area Administration (hereinafter referred to as the Northeast Coast Administration) of the Tourism Administration, Ministry of Transportation and Communications, officially launched the "2026 Northeast Coast Low-Carbon Cycling Day" series of activities today. In recent years, the Northeast Coast Administration has continuously promoted sustainable tourism. Since 2016, it has adopted the international sustainability certification "Green Destinations Awards & Certification," and has been selected as one of the world's top 100 green destinations for 10 consecutive years. Furthermore, since 2024, it has joined the "Good Travel Alliance (GTA)" initiated by the Green Destinations Foundation, becoming one of the 20 founding destinations globally, working with international partners to establish a transnational sustainable tourism cooperation platform, promoting low-carbon tourism, sustainable services, and green actions in line with international standards. Explore the century-old stone houses and Mao'ao fishing village, enjoying the tranquility and leisure of the Northeast Coastline. "Cycling Through Gongliao and Shuangxi: A Mountain and Sea Route": Follow the route where mountains and sea intertwine, and explore Gongliao and Shuangxi at your own pace, embarking on a small-town tour that combines culture and nature. "Northeast Coast Geological Exploration": Starting from Toucheng Station, this journey takes you deep into the Yilan coastline, combining environmental education with guided ecological tours. "Yilan Coastal Double Rail Cycling Experience": Starting from Dongshan Station, ride along the lush green bike path, passing through Wushierjia Wetland and Dongshan River Water Park, and experience the most charming waterfront scenery of the Lanyang Plain. On February 7, 2023, the Northeast Coast National Scenic Area Administration officially established a friendly exchange agreement on bicycle path tourism with Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, focusing on the "Old Grass Ridge Circular Bike Path" in Taiwan and the "Tsukuba-Kasumura RingRing Road" in Japan. Both routes are located northeast of the Tokyo metropolitan area and both feature bike paths converted from abandoned railways. They not only preserve a rich historical and cultural heritage but also integrate the natural landscape features along the routes, becoming an important exchange platform for Taiwan and Japan to promote bicycle tourism and sustainable tourism.
