Adapted from an old gold mining site, Gold Museum is Taiwan’s first ecological museum. It tells old-time stories of the mining town, at work and in everyday life. Precious cultural, historical and natural resources can be found here. Visitors are free to explore old Japanese houses and a nostalgic bridge here. They may also take a tour in mining tunnels. Children are encouraged to join a DIY class to try “gold-washing.” Exhibitions on mining culture and other relevant themes are held from time to time.
There’s one thing that all visitors must do – on the second floor of the Gold Museum, there is a 220-kg pure gold brick. See if you can pick it up with just one thumb and one index finger!
