Project origins

Taiwan has a wide range of diverse tourism resources, but the development and management of natural and cultural tourism involves multiple public and private departments and resource preparation so cross-domain integration is difficult. In order to effectively promote regional tourism and alliances that deepen the quality of related offerings in Taiwan and create international tourism products that combine local tourism and the distinctive characteristics of different areas, we use National Scenic Area Headquarters as integrated development platforms to research and develop promotional plans according to local parameters, which breaks from existing county and city jurisdictions. This approach also reintegrates various aspects of the tourism industry via "tourism unions and industry alliances" and invites elites from all walks of life, industry and academia to explore the highlights and nature of local areas.

The "Great Northeast Tourism Union" under the administration includes seven districts in New Taipei City (Ruifang, Pingxi, Shuangxi, Gongliao, Pinglin, Shiding, Shenkeng) and 12 townships in Yilan County (Yilan, Toucheng, Jiaoxi, Zhuangwei, Yuanshan, Luodong, Sanxing, Datong, Wujie, Dongshan, Su'ao, Nan'ao). Partners cover associations and industries in different fields such as food, lodging, tourism, shopping, transportation etc. The purpose is to let "Great Northeast Tourist Union" industry partners become more familiar with each other, develop mutual understanding and put down roots for future development; it also helps partners showcase their characteristics through cooperation, while they strive to obtain development mechanisms and use available resources to develop. Visitors can find the suitable products immediately, enjoy considerate services, make great memories and be happy consumers, which further boosts revenue in the industry. In addition, the union also cooperates with other administrative agencies to achieve mutual benefits and create an iconic tourism union.
