The Zhuangwei Dune Visitor Center is located at the 149.3-kilometer mark of the Coastal Highway (Provincial Highway 2), spanning an area of approximately 4.48 hectares. It is a new landmark in Yilan with international appeal. Designed by renowned architect Huang Sheng-yuan, the center was built around the concept of “opening up valleys to reveal dunes,” integrating Yilan’s natural elements to present unique dune landscape and sand cave-based architectural spaces. Strolling through the park, visitors are greeted on one side by tranquil rural fields and on the other by ponds reflecting the changing skies and gently swaying tops of screwpines. This serene backdrop enhances the beautiful view of the Zhuangwei Dune Visitor Center, and vast undulating dunes in view encourage visitors to pause and take a moment to appreciate nature. The surrounding area features additional attractions, such as the Yilan Coastal Bikeway, the distinctive Houpi and Buhou Communities, and the Lanyang River Mouth Waterbird Refuge . Whether enjoying the morning light, the setting sun, a leisurely walk through the park, the soothing sound of ocean waves, or simply taking in the scenery, visitors are sure to have a delightful experience. This destination offers a perfect opportunity to slow down and savor the tranquil harmony of nature and culture inspired by the dune architecture.
